What to do
When staying at Penlan Bach in the Brecon Beacons National Park
Penlan Bach lies equidistant from the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Hill walking and mountain biking enthusiasts will find a wealth of unspoilt tracks and footpaths to explore - both gentle and challenging. Guests who are keen fishermen will enjoy fly fishing on the River Usk for trout or salmon. Please view the Wye Usk Foundation site.

For the less energetic there are canal walks along the Brecon and Monmouth canal with the added interest that Llangynidr locks provide.  Built in 1812 the canal runs between Pontypool and Brecon, passing through some of the most beautiful stretches in the Usk Valley.

There is sailing at Llangorse Lake, a Multi-Activity Centre, numerous pony trekking stables, and swimming and golf in Brecon and Abergavenny. As the self proclaimed bookshop capital of the world - many days can be spent looking for that special book in Hay-on-Wye, an interesting town on the border of England and Wales which hosts the famous Hay Literary Festival every May.

The cathedral town of Brecon, and Abergavenny both have theatres and regular markets, and there is an abundance of traditional pubs in the area serving real ale and good food.  Both Abergavenny and Brecon have excellent Golf courses for all types of players.

Brecon is famous for the Brecon Jazz festival each August, and Abergavenny has become equally famous for its Food Festival held in September. Those interested in local heritage will be fascinated with Tretower Court, Llanthony Abbey and the World Heritage site at Blaenavon. Dan yr Ogof Show Caves make a super day out for families. Or maybe you just want to relax for a few days, in which case why not put your feet up and do nothing. Penlan Bach will provide all you need to do just that.
