No holiday is complete without a few treats and we can offer you some of the best.
An unusual and very special treat is afternoon tea at Gliffaes Hotel which is a twenty minute walk from here along quiet lanes.
The Gliffaes has lovely well established gardens which are worth a visit at any time of year, and a terrace overlooking the River Usk where you can relax with a drink. Non residents are also welcome to book for dinner.
All local pubs serve great beer, but those seeking real ale should avail themselves
of a pint or two at The Star Inn in Talybont-
At the top end of the scale we also have one or two really special eating places
-
If you are a real “Foodie” then check out all of these which are a short drive from here The Walnut Tree, just east of Abergavenny owned by Chef Shaun Hill is justly famous, and Steve Terry at The Hardwick is another chef who has made a great name for himself.
The Hardwick is one mile and The Walnut Tree is three miles outside Abergavenny. The Foxhunter, run by Chef Matt Tebbutt is also nearby and has been highly recommended, whilst The Crown at Whitebrook (one hour by car) has a Michelin Star menu to beat them all!
As well as all the above there are countless opportunities when in self catering accommodation to buy fresh local produce and rustle up something special at home.
Llangynidr Farmers Market takes place on the last Sunday of each month where the best of local produce is on sale in our own village hall for you to try, and there are farm shops and markets.
Sometimes the rental of a self catering cottage has big advantages over hotel accommodation! Perhaps you could create a special picnic from local goodies and take it up to the top of Tor y Foel or Llangynidr Mountain whilst watching the sun go down over The Beacons. The choice is yours!
The Felinfach Griffin is a special place to eat just outside Brecon, and if you want to go a little further we can thoroughly recommend
The Stagg at Titley, near Kington. This is over an hour away but well worth the drive as it is in a beautiful part of Herefordshire filled with old black and white timbered cottages, and your journey follows the Wye Valley for several miles.
