Further Afield

Another super stay – everything perfect again.”

A&G, Nottingham

Both Swansea and Cardiff are an hour away.  The old docks area in Cardiff has been revitalised and is a lively centre of the arts with restaurants and bars. There is an hourly train service to Cardiff from Ebbw Vale, just 8 miles away. Swansea boasts a large natural bay, Dylan Thomas Arts Centre and a thriving indoor market where fresh cockles and laver bread can be bought.

The Cathedral town of Hereford with its surrounding villages of black and white houses is also an hour from Penlan Bach, and as a centre for cider making it has a fascinating history as well as being a pretty journey there and back. You may even see hops growing in the fields or some of the famous Hereford Cattle on the way. (A nice change from sheep….)

The beaches of the Gower Peninsula, the border town of Ludlow, the Wye Valley, and the Elan valley are all a short drive away from Penlan Bach.

Bird watchers may like to do a circular day tour to Tregaron and Devil’s Bridge returning through the Elan Valley where they can keep a count of how many Red Kites they see en route! The Red Kite Centre at Rhayadr enables visitors to watch these magnificent birds feeding at certain times of day.

The Lower Wye Valley is 40 minutes away and another magnificent circular trip takes in some of the Border Castles, and the town of Monmouth, Tintern Abbey and Chepstow the possibilities are endless
