The main entrance is approached from the concrete parking area immediately outside the front door. A stair lift is installed, and additionally there are handrails on both sides of the staircase to the apartment. On the first floor all rooms are on one level and doors are 760mm wide. The front entrance door and the door to the balcony from the kitchen both have low sills at the foot of the doorframe.
The sitting room is furnished with a three seater settee and two matching armchairs. Both bedrooms have twin beds with feather duvets and assorted pillows-some feather and some hollow-fibre filled. Blankets can be provided instead of duvets if requested at the time of booking. These are made from man-made fibre. Sheets, duvet covers etc are all polyester cotton.
The TV and DVD player have remote controls. All power points in the kitchen, and one power point in the sitting room and each bedroom is at waist height. Others are at skirting board level. The radio has been pre-set to receive the more popular channels easily.
The bath is 510mm high and toilet is 440mm high. There is a flexible shower installed over the bath with thermostatic control. A handrail is alongside the shower control on the wall, and a non slip rubber mat is supplied for the base of the bath.The ensuite shower room has a shower cubicle which stands 6ins. above floor level.
In the kitchen, work top height is 910mm and the fridge freezer has the fridge above the freezer. The cooker is a floor standing model with four hobs and grill beneath. The oven door is hinged at the side in a conventional manner. The automatic washer has especially large numbers on the controls making it suitable for partially sighted visitors.
The garden is accessed from the patio beneath the balcony steps. It can also be entered through a large gate in the lane near to the parking area. The surface of the lane is tarmac and once through the gate the surface is grass. No steps are involved.
Mobile phone reception is patchy. There is a public phone 200yards uphill from Penlan, and pedestrians have to walk on the roadside to reach this. Our village shop is 100yards away. This is a level walk, but again there is no pavement. There is no public transport to the village.
The owners live on site and are available to help where necessary. Provisions can be ordered in advance through the owners.Assistance dogs are accepted. |
